You divorce or leave a long relationship or your loved one dies and you find yourself in a race, a race to escape the sorrow, the anger and the pain and at first it feels good to run, it feels liberating, like you’re really starting to do something for yourself, and in a way you are but then, after a certain amount of time, you figure out you aren’t running away from anything, you’re running through it, over and over and over again. At some magic point you stop, just for a moment and that’s when you discover your eyes are closed so you open them and you look around you and you realize what you are doing. You look down and you see that you’ve worn a groove in the shape of a circle and all along that circle are every regret, every pain, every injury, every grief you’ve experienced. Then you look outside that circle and you see the possiblities that you couldn’t see before and you step out of that rut you’ve created for yourself and you fix your eyes on the life you’ve been neglecting and you start running toward the future you simply forgot that you had.
